Smart Cities Recap

It was a privilege for GIACC to partner with Georgia Tech on a Smart India event, on April 23, 2019, which featured a keynote presentation by Dr. Joy Sen, Professor and Head, Department of Architecture and Planning, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, on the Smart Cities Mission in India. There was also a presentation by the Georgia Tech Studio class on Smart Varanasi.

The semester long class collaborated with IIT Kharagpur and IIT Varanasi, to design and implement smart city updates for the ancient holy city of Varanasi through transportation solutions, environmental protection and economic stimulus. It was very informative for the audience to learn about the progress of smart city initiatives by the Indian federal, state, district and local governments, as well as the challenges and bottlenecks in implementation at various levels. The event was well attended by academia, students and GIACC members with subject matter expertise and interest in the topic of smart cities.
